Xiamen Xiamen, China

Description:

Invited competition to develop a program, master plan, and site design around the Convention and Exhibition Center under construction. The overall site size is approximately 12 acres.

The Challenge:

To develop an organizational concept for a multi functional site.

AE Design Solution:

Water was introduced as a natural circulation around the large Convention center and became the primary organizing element for the site. Bicycle, pedestrian, small vehicles, and underground trams circulate around the manmade river. The rural circulation grid was introduced to weave the local fabric into the site. Parking and utilities are located underground. Five star hotels, retail vendors, and leisure activities were placed along the board extending the rear entrance of the building to the ocean. Exhibition gathering space is located facing the building or stage with large presentation screens. Major bus, taxi, and vehicular terminals are located on each side of the site.
