The Challenge:

To replace an old low energy linear accelerator in a small cramped existing radiation bunker with a new state of the art dual energy linear accelerator. Complete major demolition and construction work at an interior space of a hospital while allowing the surrounding staff and patient treatment areas to continue to function.

AE Design Solution:

The design required removal of a 4 ft. thick concrete wall and relocation of major building utilities. Construction phasing and staging had to be carefully incorporated into the final design of the linear accelerator vault modification and new control area. The final design provides ample space to house Northside Hospital's new cutting edge cancer treatment equipment.
