| Medical College of Virginia Vault Renovation | Richmond, Virginia |
The Challenge: Renovate an existing linear accelerator vault to upgrade from existing low energy equipment to a state of the art dual energy accelerator with a series of added, experimental devices under the direction of Dr. Benedict, the chief physicist from MCV. Accommodate all new equipment and shielding within the footprint of the existing vault. AE Design Solution: AE Design provided design services and details to upgrade the existing vault with the proper shielding through a combination of additional concrete and lead in areas with space limitations. We designed the renovation of the existing vault space around Varian's Trilogy Silhouette model with OBI and additional provisions to accommodate new BrainLAB Novalis and Calypso systems installed and incorporated together as one unique system. AE Design worked with the equipment manufacturers to make modifications to their design guidelines to accommodate additional floor boxes and ceiling laser light boxes for the various experimental equipment requested by Dr. Benedict. Millwork for a long 24' control console was designed to accommodate the numerous computer and control devices for the above three main systems. |
